Why internal podcasts fail before they start

All-hands nobody watches

The recording lands in SharePoint. Nobody watches 90 minutes of slides on their lunch break.

A 15-minute episode reaches the people who were never in the room.

No proof of training completion

Six weeks after the compliance upload, 30% opened the PDF. Nobody knows how many read it.

Completion tracking shows who finished each episode, per department.

Private podcast leaked publicly

Someone shared the RSS link and the CEO update appeared in Apple Podcasts' public directory.

Springcast private feeds are never indexed and need authentication.

IT rejects US data hosting

Listening behavior is personal data under GDPR, and your DPO won't accept a US server.

Hosted in the Netherlands, ISO 27001 certified, DPA ready to sign.

500 accounts to manage by hand

Every employee needs access, and you're not creating 500 accounts manually.

SSO grants and revokes access through your identity provider automatically.

What's included

Built for internal podcasts, not adapted from public hosting

Private RSS feeds

Not indexed. Not discoverable. Not public. Your podcast exists only for authenticated listeners.

SSO authentication

Azure AD, Okta, SAML. Employees log in with their company credentials. No separate accounts to manage.

Per-team access control

Marketing hears the marketing podcast. Engineering hears engineering. The CEO update goes to everyone. You control who hears what.

Completion analytics

Who listened? How far did they get? Which department? Completion rates per episode, the data L&D needs to prove training ROI.

Authenticated player

Branded, embedded, login-required. No anonymous access. Embeddable on your intranet or standalone.

Department dashboards

Analytics broken down by team, department, and location. See which office engages most. Export for stakeholder reports.

EU-hosted (Netherlands)

Employee listening data is personal data under GDPR. Springcast: Netherlands-hosted, ISO 27001, DPA included.

Episode-level restrictions

Restrict specific episodes to specific groups. Board updates for leadership only. Onboarding series for new hires only.

Branded internal player

Your logo, your colors. Looks like an internal tool, because it is. No Springcast branding visible.

Password-protected website

Keep a private show's website online and lock it: set a password, or connect it to the same login your people already use in the Springcast mobile app. One account opens both the app and the web player, no second system to manage.

Offboarding auto-revoke

Employee leaves, their identity provider account is deactivated, podcast access is revoked. No manual cleanup.

Private distribution

Your podcast. Your people. Nobody else.

Private podcasts on Springcast are private by architecture, not by obscurity, private RSS feeds, authenticated player, zero public directory submissions. Not just unlisted. Genuinely unreachable.

Access control

The right content to the right team. Automatically.

Access follows the organization: show-level and episode-level restrictions sync from your identity provider. Marketing joins, they get the marketing podcast. They move teams, access updates. They leave, it's revoked. No spreadsheets. No manual management.

Internal analytics

Know who listened. Know who didn't.

Internal analytics answer the right question: not "how many downloads?" but "which departments listened, and did they finish?" For L&D, that's the difference between gut feel and auditable completion data. Know who listened. Know who didn't.

Springcast vs. the alternatives for internal podcasting

For most organizations, the real alternative is not another podcast tool. It is SharePoint, an intranet audio player, or a workaround built on a consumer podcast host. We have included all of them. Where Storyboard is stronger, we will say so. Where SharePoint has a genuine advantage, we acknowledge it.

On SharePoint

It is already in your stack. That is a real advantage we cannot compete with on cost. Where it falls short: no podcast-native mobile experience, no RSS for employees' preferred apps, no completion tracking per listener, no audio optimization, and an average intranet audio play rate typically below 15%. Springcast is not free. But if employees are not engaging with audio on SharePoint, the cost of the tool is the least of your problems.

On Storyboard

If your organization needs deep LMS integration as the primary use case, Storyboard is a strong dedicated option. Their LMS integration is mature and purpose-built for L&D workflows. Springcast's advantage: podcast-native audio quality and distribution, full EU compliance with transparent pricing, and the same platform that handles both internal and external podcasts if your organization runs both.

Where Springcast wins

Private-by-architecture distribution, completion analytics tied to authenticated listeners, EU hosting for employee data, and one platform for both internal and external shows. If those matter, the comparison shifts decisively.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Private RSS feeds work in most podcast apps as a private subscription: Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts, Overcast, and others. The show never appears in public directories or search. Each employee adds a unique private feed URL to their preferred app and the show appears only in their account. Spotify does not support private RSS feeds. For Spotify-only listeners, the authenticated web player and embeddable intranet player are the alternative.
Azure AD, Okta, and any SAML 2.0-compliant identity provider. Setup typically takes 1-2 hours with your IT team. Springcast supports both IdP-initiated and SP-initiated SSO flows. SCIM provisioning for automated user provisioning and deprovisioning is available.
Yes. Access control works at two levels: show-level (entire shows assigned to departments or groups synced from your identity provider) and episode-level (individual episodes restricted to specific groups within a show). Groups sync from your identity provider, so there is no manual list to maintain.
When an employee is deactivated in your identity provider (Azure AD, Okta), their podcast access is automatically revoked. Private RSS feed tokens are invalidated. No manual cleanup required. The audit log records the access change with a timestamp.
Yes. Analytics are broken down by department, team, and location, based on the identity provider groups you use for access control. You can see listen rates, completion rates per episode, and engagement trends per group. Export as PDF for leadership reporting or CSV for integration with HR or L&D systems.
There is no hard listener cap on Business tier. Pricing is based on the plan, not per-listener. Whether you have 50 or 5,000 employees, the pricing model is the same. For organizations above 10,000 employees, contact us to discuss enterprise pricing.
Completion data is available via API. Common use case: push completion events to your LMS for compliance tracking. Webhook triggers on episode completion are supported.
Employee listening data is personal data under GDPR. Springcast is hosted in the Netherlands, within the EU. ISO 27001 certified. A full DPA is available for immediate signing, and the sub-processor list is published and kept current. Listening data is never shared with third parties. Anonymous aggregate mode is available for organizations that do not want individual-level tracking. Data retention is configurable. Full detail: EU compliance →
Yes. Full white-label on Business tier: your colors, your logo. The player embeds on your intranet, HR portal, or a standalone show page. No Springcast branding is visible to employees. It looks like something you built, because you configured it.
SharePoint stores files. Springcast delivers podcasts. Private RSS means employees listen in their usual podcast app, during their commute, on their phone, without logging into the intranet. Authenticated access means you know who listened. Completion analytics mean you can prove training was consumed. Average intranet audio play rate: below 15%. Average internal podcast listen rate on Springcast: 65-75%.
